Sigmund Death
When I was younger, I loved to make characters who were strong and feminine, and they could overcome anything because they were determined. And those characters are fun to make, and they’re special and you should always hold them close to your heart.
However when you get older, often the world dampens that child like fervor for taking it on. You get tired, pessimistic, you feel like things never really completely get better before they get worse again.
Sigmund Death represents that feeling in myself. I honestly couldn’t conceptualize him, visually, until I was an adult. This is not to say that kids can’t conceptualize these kinds of things. ( Sadly they can )
What I do mean to say is that just because an idea is not complete in your mind now, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t hang onto it. It took 5 years for Sigmund to show me his face, and even longer before I knew what his personality would be like.
About the Character…
Sigmund is the counterpart to Life. While Life represents chaos, Death represents order. His job in my world is to collect used up magic from the departed, or departing. He takes this sour magic and filters it through himself before depositing it back where all of magic goes to rest.
Personality wise, Sigmund is not as excitable or personable as Life is. He has lived since the very creation of the world and witnessed the rise and fall of dragon kin and humans alike. He sees himself as beyond all of it. His ultimate duty is to maintain the natural balance, no matter what.
Of course, one does not live centuries without being touched by a little madness. Sigmund is constantly plagued by voices of the past, voices of the dead, and voices of those who have villainized him through the course of history.
Sigmund has committed many atrocities in the name of balance, and likely will continue to do so until he is dead. As long as he thinks the end justifies the means, he will do whatever it takes to maintain order.
Often this means he has brushes with humans, who push the natural boundaries. The more they progress, the more Death stands in the way of their growth, which has resulted in many disagreements.
