Absolum Mei and Leopold Luthor

Absolum is the first-born son of Salem and Vincent, he was born with the phoenix flame, passed down to him through blood by his grandmother Sereth. The Phoenix flame protected Sereth in her times of need, and so Absolum was told it would do this for him as well, as long as he cultivated it. Kept it with care.

Absolum was raised on stories of his great predecessors, and decided at a very young age that he wanted to be just like them. He spent his young adolescent life running around the busy streets of Waterdeep, fancying himself a hero.

It wasn’t entirely a fantasy. Absolum had the abilities and determination needed to grow into something truly incredible, but somewhere deep down he doubts himself. There’s a quiet voice that says that if he doesn’t use his potential, he’s going to be a disappointment to everyone.

Absolum left home at 19, once he had completed his family’s rite of passage (A tradition passed down from Katalmach), and went off to find his heroic calling. However, he found himself caught in a surface raid by Yuan Ti, in one instance. They took particular interest in him, experimented on him, and sent him on his way only for him to be captured again by Drow.

It was during the time he spent in the dark drow dungeons and in the pit fights they forced him to take part in, where he met his head-mate, Leopold. Someone who was not him, who shared his body.

When Absolum was a hero, righteous and upright, Leopold backed him up as the one who was willing to get their hands dirty. But he was not just that, Leopold was also the one who helped him through it all. Someone to share the pain with.

Leo is often seen as the bad half, the one that is what is wrong with them, the one all of the problems are blamed on. In reality, Leopold doesn’t care what anyone thinks about him, outside of a choice few close friends, and Absolum himself. Maybe he is the bad one, but he get’s the job done at least.

L:eopold is driven by hurt and suspicion, and all of his decisions are driven by what one may call a selfish self centered system. Leo sees himself as practical and calculated instead, and can be pleasant if you catch him on a lazy day.

Artist Note…

I’m still playing with these two, and they’ve been absolutely amazing. Admittedly, when I made him, I felt like the idea was a little half baked, but since his creation he has grown into something I love very much.

Rather than his story being based off of hurt, like Sereth’s, Absolum’s story has been an experience where he is learning that the world is not quite as simple as he thought. Things are more complicated than everyone said they would be, and problems seem so much bigger.

How are you supposed to be a hero when it feels like you have to sacrifice things to save others?

Not just that, Absolum’s story (As well as his mother’s) is also a reflection of my struggles as an adult. Wondering who you are supposed to be, and how much of it is defined by your family, or other people.

Absolum is still teaching me lessons now, and I cherish him for that.

Farren Luthor Mei

Farren is Absolum’s younger sister. She’s the golden child, really.

While Absolum was out doing vigilante work and getting arrested by the Griffon Guard for battery, Farren was following Salem’s steps in becoming the meek, but lovely and secretly powerful woman. She did lots of work with less fortunate groups in Waterdeep, helping take care of them, and this garnered her a bit of a reputation as a fairly decent person.

However, that would come to a sudden end as Farren had an out-of-character outburst of rage towards someone in her ring. If it hadn’t been for nearby healers, her unfortunate victim would have surely died.

After this accident, Farren’s parents sent her off to live with her brother, just a few days travel out of town. From there, Farren would join Absolum’s adventuring party, The Brunch Society.

Artist Notes…

Like Absolum, Farren is still being played. The art is mine, but Farren as a character belongs to one of my oldest (and youngest, lol) friends, Loredana. We’ve been close friends for many years, and so playing one of my favorite games with her, and being able to include her in it has honestly been amazing.

Farren is Lore’s first character, and she’s already been through some crazy stuff! The tattoos on her are actually magical, and they indicate that she has a very powerful creature sealed inside of her. Her soul being the very key to the lock.

Design wise, Farren’s design is one of my best works to date, I believe. Her wings are amazing, and the colors, and her scales too. I love looking at her design and just staring sometimes.
