2019 - 2022 Commissions
Since around 2019, I haven’t done much paid work, I’ve mostly taken a break from doing art for money for a couple of years now, and focusing on making it something I love still.
I have all kinds of aspirations for my art, directions I’d like to take it, great visions of grandeur. But sadly, just like with art, it’s easy to imagine something and get excited about it, but to actually make progress is an uphill climb.
Personally I struggle with feeling like my art isn’t good enough for people’s money, and I tell myself if I don’t need the money I shouldn’t ask for it. But there is value in what I do. I make people’s visions reality.
Over the next couple of years after 2019, I focused on myself, and my art by extension. I gave it the proper attention it had been needing, and I made it my own yet again.
I’ve tried going in a few different directions since then, animation, oil painting, webcomics and such, but I haven’t chosen a path just yet. I don’t think I quite have the knack for social media needed to publicize my work in mass.
While I still have plenty of room to improve, I think I definitely see my own improvement now, and I have much more confidence in myself than I used to. My process is more refined and I have a better grasp on things like clothing and anatomy.
On top of that, my equipment over the years has gradually improved. I have software for posing models, websites I have access to for help, I have an iPad now that I am more comfortable working with than the software I was using back in the 2017 time period. I think you can see the jump in quality between pieces on the page.
Working at higher resolutions was also a big factor, my old software couldn’t handle pieces like the one here.
One of the most important core aspects of art, however, is community. Even if you are not an active member of the Artists Against Mondays coalition or whatever, you are always going to have your art in common with other artists. And even if everyone’s art is going to be unique, it is important that you draw inspiration from your fellow artists. They are more than happy to share tips.
